The season finale of the BHMC’s spring season featured a trio of Portland’s most assiduous artists.  Julie Perini, Pam Minty, and Jody Darbi got the show started by offering a direct-animation workshop in which the audience scrapped, painted, scratched, and otherwise hand-manipulated 16mm filmstrips of some of history’s most vile characters (Hitler, Joseph McCarthy, etc).  The screening then began, highlighting new, old, and still-in-progress work, and was capped off by screening the hand-manipulated film the audience had created previous to the show.

Giant thanks to Irene Taylor-Brodsky, Sophie Harris, Courtney Hermann, KB Elliott, and Brian Lindstrom for illuminating the BHMC screen with their beautiful and thought-provoking documentaries.

… and showed some videos and read some poetry as well.

We had an excellent night of short narrative films here at the BHMC last week, headlined by <a href=”http://heartsandsparksproductions.com/about”>Dawn Jones-Redstone</a>’s <em>Sista In The Brotherhood</em>, a powerful look at the challenges women and people of color face in the work force:

It was an all-round great night and are appreciative of Dawn, along with Michael Hull, Lara Gallagher, Jordan Ros, Shannon Willis, Josh Lunden, and The Whiteman Brothers put together a great program. Big thanks to the filmmakers and everyone who came out!
